Celebrate Freedom: The Importance of Juneteenth

Recognized as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
